I was pretty much dieing to take these girls’ pictures and finally got the opportunity along with a family portrait session. The lighting was crazy cool and the wind died down just enough to be cooperative.

This week at IHeartFaces is “White” I had a hard time choosing between three images that I had and decided on this one because of the stark contrast of green and white.

Who can pass up free kittens? Well we had many times but this time we succumbed to the idea. When my mom and I went to go pick up Sadie it was very easy to pick her from the others. Those startling green eyes and stark white whiskers caught our eyes and she leaped into our hearts. She comforted me after a miscarriage and I got the privilege of being her favorite for a while. Sadie will always have a place in my heart.

I Heart Faces is a great challenge for photographers of all experience to push themselves. Enter your photo!

A dear friend of mine invited me to her daughter’s birthday party. I volunteered to take pictures as her present because we were just finishing school and getting ready to move and not much time to go shopping for something cute for the little darling. I hope this will do for the birthday girl. It was so cute she knew how to clap and when someone said “How big is M?!” She’d throw her arms above her head as far as she could reach. So cute. I love seeing milestones that I know my little one will be going through pretty soon.

I’ve never shot a family reunion before and within a week I got my first two reunions scheduled. It was a little stressful knowing the size of this first group but I tried to focus on what I know my strengths are and ran with it. I had a lot of fun and this was such a wonderful family to share this experience with. Really. Amazing.

I love sweet moments like these.

A big thanks to Legit Hair Salon’s Erin Jarvis and photographer Vicki Matheson for letting me tag along last Saturday for a photo shoot. The theme was country, but everything looked so lush and green I felt like it was a magical shoot. The models looked amazing and were great the whole time. Unfortunately we were on the menu for the mosquitoes that night. Ack! Kait’s pictures turned out to be my faves most likely because of the light when we began shooting her. What a wonderful time! Can’t wait for the next one this weekend!

I’m trying to learn some new lighting techniques for upcoming photo shoots and  I’ve been reading a lot about backlighting. I decided to give it a try and really like the mood it gives and how it effects the bokeh in the background. I also used some photoshop actions to help the exposure and increase the contrast but most of the work was done in curves. Next time I’m going to use a reflector though.

I’ve been going back through some of my past images and trying to re-edit them. I’ve been happy with the results. :)
